I recently returned from travelling through North Africa and Western Europe. It was an amazing trip that will be the subject of several blog posts – starting with this one!
I chose this rather niche topic to start because it is hard to find reliable information online. Many of these posts will be similar to hopefully help some people plan their trips.
Background
Tangier is a city on the northern coast of Morocco. It has a relatively small airport that carries both domestic and international traffic.
Unlike some other smaller airports it is located quite a fair way out of the city centre. As a visitor you’ll need to use one of the following transport options:
- Car
- Taxi (only one type)
- Bus
Driving a car yourself is not recommended, especially if you’re not familiar with Morocco. I might cover this topic in a future post.
You can use a taxi if you wish. These are strictly regulated in Tangier. You can only use the ‘Grand Taxis’ (essentially shared taxis) and there is a fixed price.

The final option is the bus. There are private operators but the information in this post only relates to the public bus service.
This has only been introduced recently. From what I can find the public bus to the airport started operating in 2024.
Tangier public airport bus
The bus operator has a webpage for this service. Unfortunately it is incorrect.
When I was in Tangier I checked this webpage and its promise that buses ran every 10 minutes seemed too good to be true. So the day before my flight I walked over to the terminus bus stop at the railway station and asked one of the bus drivers. He confirmed the following information:
- The bus route display is ‘AE’.
- Services operate every hour in each direction. From Tangier Railway Station, it is a clockface timetable with buses departing on the half hour (i.e. 0930, 1030, 1130, etc.)
- The fare is MAD15.
- The first bus that leaves Tangier Railway Station (the terminus) is at XXXXXX and the last bus is at DDDDDD. This is on weekdays, I’m unsure of the timetable on weekends or public holidays.
- You can pay either in cash or with your credit / debit card when you board the bus. There is no facility (or need) to buy tickets in advance.
he next day I caught the bus successfully using this information. The bus stop is located on the main road outside the main entrance to the railway station, just past the permanently-stationed crowd of taxi drivers who will try to entice you to go with them instead. It is listed as ‘Gare Ferrovaire‘ (stop ID 770150).

The bus was new, clean and comfortable. There were only a few other people on board, some of whom alighted before the airport.
There are several stops along the way if you are not staying near the main railway station. The full route is here on OpenStreetMap with all the stop locations.

I hope that this helps with trip planning. Please note that this information is correct as of May 2025 and may change in the future.
